GUESTS
MEET LARRY HAGMAN
What would a visit to Texas be without a chance to
meet the original J.R. Ewing from the ‘80s television
hit drama Dallas? As it turns out, Larry Hagman
(also of I Dream of Jeannie fame) who played the
infamous J.R., is a renewable energy kind of guy.
Hagman has one of the largest residential solar panel
systems in California that he uses to completely sustain his home. He
thoroughly understands the role of biodiesel in the U.S. energy sector
and will be participating in several conference events, including the
Monday morning General Session.
JOHN G. STOESSINGER, PHD, IS TUESDAY’S
KEYNOTE SPEAKER
On the eve of World War II, John G. Stoessinger,
PhD, fled Nazi-occupied Austria to Czechoslovakia.
Three years later, he fled again via Siberia to China
where he lived for seven years and served with the
International Refugee Organization.
John Stoessinger has taught at Harvard, Columbia and Trinity
Universities, and now serves as Distinguished Professor of Global
Diplomacy at the University of San Diego. He also served as
Director of the Political Affairs Division of the United Nations. Dr.
Stoessinger has published ten books, including the Bancroft Prizewinning
The Might of Nations: World Politics in Our Time. His most
popular book, Why Nations Go to War, has just been published in its
tenth edition.
CARVILLE AND MATALIN
TO SPEAK AT WEDNESDAY GENERAL SESSION
You’ve seen them invigorate the political
scene for years, lending lively debate to
the airwaves. Here’s your chance to see
one of the nation’s most famous political
couples, Mary Matalin and James
Carville.
What makes this husband-and-wife team unique is the fact that
Matalin is active in Republican politics – she formerly served as
assistant to President George W. Bush and counselor to Vice President
Dick Cheney. Meanwhile, Carville has been equally eloquent in
Democratic politics — he was chief campaign strategist for
Clinton/Gore in 1992 and is one of America’s best-known political
consultants.
Hear this pair discuss their political histories and how a “power
couple” such as they manage a household (and two children) divided
by political affiliations. Witness their dialogue and unique communication
style as they discuss the importance of political activity in
getting public policy turned in your favor.
