A GREEN Event!

The National Biodiesel Board is again this year undertaking extensive efforts to “green” our conference.  NBB has again retained The Spitfire Agency to lead our greening efforts.  These efforts will include:

  • Digital Marketing – Whenever possible, NBB will utilize advanced technology to reach our target market, rather than print, direct mail, and the like.
  • Recycled/Tree Free Printing – Whenever possible, the NBB will utilize tree free or recycled papers and plant-based, non-toxic inks.
  • Merchandise – Whenever possible, NBB merchandise will be created with environmentally responsible products, and will be manufactured without the use of sweatshop labor.
  • Attendee Outreach – NBB will actively promote this sustainability mission to you, our attendees, in an effort to solicit your participation – by not creating waste, considering public transportation, and the like.
  • Non Profit Outreach – In an effort to make the conference as accessible as possible, NBB is offering discounted expo booths to non-profits.
  • Energy Offsetting – NBB is offsetting the convention center energy use through wind energy certificates that benefit low-income communities, thanks to NativeEnergy.
  • Sponsor & Vendor Outreach – The NBB will encourage our sponsors and vendors to join us in our mission. We will issue a letter that will outline many simple ways that each company can reduce their impact as it relates specifically to Expo participation.  Additionally, we have made The Spitfire Agency available to our clients for suggestions and assistance, as it pertains to environmentally responsible marketing ideas, responsible vendor contacts, low impact shipping ideas and the like.
  • The NBB will work with our convention center to help them reduce our impact on the environment. We are working to use 100% post consumer waste toilet paper, recycled or bio-plastic trash bags, tree free paper items, organic soaps in the bathrooms, unbleached coffee filters in the kitchen, paraffin free candles on the tables, organic flowers and much more!  For more on the many ways we will transform this event, please visit the NBB web site.
  • Waste Reduction – NBB will ensure that minimum waste enters the waste stream by emphasizing efforts on reducing and reusing.
  • Waste Reclamation – NBB will provide Waste Reclamation Stations that provide attendees and sponsors with a convenient place to recycle glass, bottles, plastic, aluminum, paper and cardboard. This also includes reusing shipping boxes, shipping peanuts and the like. Our goal is as little trash as possible.
  • Disposables – As often as possible, disposable cups will be replaced with reusable mugs, and/or bio-plastic/tree free compostables. Disposable cutlery will be replaced with reusable silverware, and/or cornstarch compostables. Virgin napkins will be replaced with cloth napkins, and/or 100% recycled paper napkins. Petroleum plastics will be replaced with bioplastics – and the like.
  • Food Donations – Any reusable food leftover from convention meals will be donated to local food banks, for distribution to those less fortunate than ourselves.
